Wow oh wow! Who knew that I would have to take all of these tests just to find out if I’m having fertility issues. I mean, I read about the different tests but what I didn’t realize was that they all have to take place during the different stages in my cycle. Thank God I scheduled this appointment with the reproductive endocrinologist when I did. Since it was the beginning of my cycle I was able to get the ball rolling during my consultation instead of having to go back later or even wait until next month.
I am so thankful that my insurance covers ALL of these tests. Sometimes you don’t realize how good you have it with a company until something like this comes up. I’m learning that most companies don’t cover anything when it comes to fertility testing and treatments so I’m beyond thankful for my company. So during my consultation, the doctor explained to me how the tests work and what they would be looking for. It was so much information that it was hard to keep up with but I managed to remember most of it.
I make sure I get pap smears as often as needed so that part was already taken care of. My paps always come back normal so the RE moved on to the next step which were the tests to ensure that my ovaries looked and functioned the way that they should. I believe they called this tests or these series of test, the “day 3 tests”. These were blood tests and I would have the results back within a few days. They will also do an ultrasound to count follicles and make sure my ovarian reserve is where it should be.
I have to go back again to confirm ovulation and to check my progesterone levels and some other levels also (it’s really a lot to keep up with). Oh, and my husband also has to have a semen analysis done (I’m sure he will be thrilled about that). I will say that he’s been extremely supportive thus far and I couldn’t ask for a better spouse. He will do whatever it takes to make sure this process is as smooth as it can be.
I must trust God through this process, no matter how hard it seems. Regardless of what obstacles we face, we have to trust that God is by our side and that he will never leave nor forsake us. Deuteronomy 31:6 says: “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
I am being strong during this entire process, knowing that God is always with me…
